Player Breakdown
Joel Embiid has a regular-season MVP, so the comparison certainly isn’t perfect, but he and Zion Williamson are similar in the sense that they struggle (to put it mildly) to stay on the floor but are absolutely dominant scorers when they are. In Embiid’s case, he’s the all-time leader in points per possession, and there are reasons to think he might log more minutes than usual. For one thing, he looks significantly slimmer in early pictures from training camp. And for another, he’s now on a team with three big-time innings eaters in Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, who’ll all take pressure off the big man.
Biggest QuestionCan He Stay Healthy?
This is now the annual question for Embiid. If he’s around in the spring and summer, Philadelphia will have a shot at the title. If he’s not, they probably won’t. And it’s anybody’s guess as to what’ll happen on that front.
